Is Biotin Or Collagen Better For Hair
In the case of biotin vs. collagen for hair, both can help with improving hair health. Starting with biotin, you may have heard about this B vitamin that gets an A+ for its beauty benefits. “Biotin, or vitamin B7, is an essential water-soluble vitamin,” explains Goddard. “It helps the formation of fat cells and regulates sebum production.” If you’re not getting enough biotin, she says that you might experience these symptoms: increased skin sensitivity, dandruff and excessive sebum production. Collagen, on the other hand, improves hair structure by increasing protein levels. If you’re having a difficult time choosing between the two, the good news is that you don’t have to! Goddard recommends taking both for maximum benefits .

What Are Collagen Builders
Collagen builders are a good option for those who are following a plant-based diet but are still looking to boost their body’s natural collagen production.** So, what are collagen builders exactly? Simply, they contain nutrients that support collagen production, but don’tactually contain collagen. Think: products that contain biotin and vitamin C , which are considered building blocks of collagen.
Collagen is special because it contains an abundance of the three amino acids that you won’t find in meaningful amounts in many other foods . Muscular growth, joint health and an overall glowing appearance can be partially attributed to the amino acid blend in collagen that can’t be found anywhere else.
Does Collagen Help Hair Growth
Much like biotin and daily scalp massages, collagen is a buzzword you may have seen thrown around with hair growth. “Collagen is a natural antioxidant that regenerates the hair follicle,” explains Dr. Renee Moran, Owner of Dr. Renee Moran Medical Aesthetic. “Free radicals can damage hair follicles, which can lead to hair loss.” Guess what helps neutralize these free radicals? Thats right, collagen. “This then allows the hair to grow,” she says.
Collagen helps with hair growth in other ways. “Collagen is broken down into amino acids that are used to build new proteins and compounds,” says dermatologist Dr. Olivia Anderson. Since your hair is primarily made up of a protein called keratin, your body uses several amino acids to build it.
But here’s the key: “Many of these amino acids are found in collagen,” says Dr. Anderson. This means that collagen helps foster hair growth by nurturing hair health.

My Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides Experience
Collagen is an important protein that makes up the majority of our skin, and it starts to decline as we age, explains Reda Elmardi, a registered dietitian, certified strength and conditioning specialist and author of the blog The Gym Goat. Collagen is produced throughout life, but its rate of production slows down after 30 years of age, he says. This is due to the fact that we are no longer producing new cells at a high rate. As we get older, our bodies start to lose their ability to produce new collagen.
In my personal experience, after a year of taking Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides, I can easily say that I believe I have benefited from the product. Ive noticed a vast change in the condition of my skin, for one. When I started taking Vital Proteins my skin was dull and dry, I was struggling with hormonal acne on my chin and I was dealing with intermittent eczema around my nose. Today, I believe my skin looks clear and bright, my eczema is in complete remission and I no longer have cyclical acne . While I cant say these changes were a direct result of using the collagen peptides, these are the physical differences I noticed after a year of use.
In addition, the knee pain I was experiencing has definitely improved. It used to be nearly constant, making it difficult to stand after sitting for long periods of time. While I do experience flare-ups after running, overall I would say Ive noticed improvements in my joint health after taking collagen for a year.

Which Collagen Is Best For Hair
Not all collagen powders are the same. What’s good for your skin may not offer the right fit to the hair. So when looking into which collagen is best for hair, , celebrity hairstylist, CEO and Owner of Martino Cartier Salon in Washington Twp., NJ, says to opt for hydrolyzed collagen peptides powder: “It helps our cells inside of our body work better.” Nikki Goddard, certified hair stylist and makeup artist with an associate degree in cosmetology, agrees. “It seals moisture in cells, improves hair structure and health and makes it elastic and shiny,” she says, recommending collagen Types 1 and 3 . “These are the primary building blocks’ of hairs.”
