Are There More Effective Supplements To Build Muscle

Pick The Right Whey Protein in Under 4 Minutes

Protein supplements are by no means magical. They can aid muscle growth, but so does regular food . Whether your dietary protein is coming from chicken breast or whey, its almost the same in terms of muscle growth.

However, whey protein is one of the few fitness supplements that actually works. Precisely because its very similar to real food. Its hard to even call it a supplement. It may even be used as a post-workout meal replacement.

Most other supplements are hardly effective because they are just that supplements. Not to mention the industry is poorly regulated, so most product claims are rarely backed up by science.

Takeaway: protein powders are one of the few fitness supplements that actually work.

Is Whey Protein Cancerous

Cancers come in many kinds. Also, Its rare for a cancer type to have a single cause. There are a multitude of factors that may increase your risk of certain types of the disease.

Even if you smoke a pack a day, it doesnt mean youll develop lung cancer. Genetic predispositions and a dozen other factors also play a huge role. Dose and time of exposure are important as well. Thats why we use the word risk factor, not cause.

Whey supplements are primarily made of amino acids. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein. Protein itself is one of the 3 major components of pretty much everything you eat. The other two most common nutrients are carbs and fats.

To label whey as carcinogenic means, well have to consider all food dangerous. This is far from reality. Yes, there are some foods that might be carcinogenic. But those are the rare exception.

Even with those foods in mind, the risk is 100x lower compared to things like alcohol or tobacco.

Takeaway: whey protein is not carcinogenic.

Supplements 101: The Benefit of Whey Protein & Isolate

Whey protein is a popular dairy-based protein available in the market. It is processed from the remaining liquid part of cheese or yogurt. The fluid contains fast-digesting proteins called whey protein. The liquid is then filtered and dried to make whey protein powder. Before processing, the liquid part contains about 20 per cent of whey and 80 per cent casein proteins. Whey is considered to be a complete protein because it contains all nine essential amino acids.

Are Whey Supplements Safe

The supplement industry is not well regulated. Product claims may be inaccurate or downright false. Transportation and storing can also affect the quality of the supplement. For example, fish oil quality can rapidly degrade if not stored properly.

However, whey is cheap and very easy to produce. Also, due to its powder form, it has a long shelf life. Unlike many other products it contains very few additives.

Were talking about a simple product you cant mess around with much. Adding anything extra will increase production costs. Worst case, the product has been diluted.

Usually, its done by replacing some of the protein content with carbs. Sugar is cheaper than whey, so it saves money. But then again, a bit of sugar wont affect your health.

Takeaway: most brands dont have a financial incentive to put anything harmful in their products. Though protein content might be lower than what it says on the label.

May Help You Lose Weight

Adding protein powder to your coffee may aid weight loss.

Given that protein reduces hunger and promotes feelings of fullness, adding it to your coffee may help keep you fuller for longer and possibly slash the number of calories you eat later in the day .

Protein may also provide a slight metabolism boost because it requires your body to burn more calories to break it down than do carbs or fats (

That said, drinking regular coffee with a protein-rich breakfast is likely to provide the same benefits.

SUMMARY

Stirring protein powder into coffee may provide several benefits, such as improved weight loss and workout performance. It may also help you meet your daily protein needs.

Is Whey Protein Powder Beneficial

Doctor

We recommend turning to whole food sources of protein as a first means of obtaining protein. Good sources of protein include meat, poultry, fish, eggs, greek yogurt, legumes, tofu, and tempeh.

However, if you are not able to meet your protein needs from food alone and do not have a milk allergy, a whey protein powder may come in handy. Since whey protein powders are typically low in carbohydrates and carbohydrates are important for exercise, mix your whey protein into a smoothie with carbohydrate-containing ingredients like milk, bananas, and flavored yogurt. You can also pair your protein shake with a carbohydrate-rich snack, such as yogurt with fruit and granola or a sandwich for a more complete meal and to fully recover from exercise.

What Is Protein Hydrolysate

Protein hydrolysates are made by taking a concentrate or isolate and subjecting it to further processing. Hydrolysates have been exposed to enzymes that break large, complex proteins into smaller pieces and partially break down the bonds between the proteins amino acids. This creates a product that absorbs quicker for speedier digestion. The extra processing also makes hydrolysate the most expensive type of protein powder, and it may make the taste more bitter.

When it comes to deciding between the three options, hydrolysates arent usually part of the conversation because concentrates and isolates are already digested fairly rapidly, so most people dont feel hydrolysate is worth the increased cost. So the real debate is between isolate and concentrate.

Taste Of Grass Fed Whey Protein Isolate

The directions say to mix this protein powder with 6-8 ounces of cold water or your beverage of choice. My beverage of choice is milk, but I also tried it with water for comparison.

The protein powder with milk came out thick and creamy like a milkshake which is just how I like it. Thin and watery protein shakes are kinda gross, in my opinion. If you like it thick and creamy, then mixing it with milk works great.

I also tried it with water for comparison. The water version was a bit less creamy, as you can imagine it would be, but it was still pretty good.

In my opinion, the milk was a bit better, but that could just be a personal preference. If you prefer water, you will be happy, though.

As for the actual taste, it was pretty good, certainly above average. It seemed like you could taste the peanut butter flavor a bit more than the vanilla.

I would give this flavor an A- for a grade. It was above average, for sure/

I have also had the vanilla flavor before and would say that one is an A+. The flavor is great all by itself and with it just being vanilla, you can eaily mix fruit or peanut butter with it.

Whey Protein Isolate Vs Concentrate: Whats The Difference

The main difference between whey protein isolate and concentrate is the amounts of protein, fat, and lactose they have in them. Whey isolate contains a higher amount of protein and less fat and lactose than whey concentrate does. This makes it a great choice for people who want a more pure whey protein and also those looking for something low carb.

May Help You Meet Your Daily Protein Needs

Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey Isolate Review – The Best Isolate?

One commonly cited benefit to adding protein to coffee is that it helps people who regularly skip breakfast meet their daily protein requirements.

Protein is likely best eaten over several periods throughout the day, especially if youre physically active and hoping to build muscle or increase strength .

Thats because your body may only be able to use around 0.2 grams of protein per pound of body weight at a time for muscle-building purposes .

For someone who weighs 154 pounds , this amounts to around 35 grams of protein per meal. Anything above this amount is either used to make energy or excreted through your urine .

Thus, adding protein to coffee may help you spread out your protein intake more effectively.

All the same, a complete and balanced breakfast is an even better strategy, as it helps fulfill your daily requirements for vitamins, minerals, and other important nutrients, in addition to protein.

Both Contain The Building Blocks Of Muscle

Lets get scientific for a second:

Muscle tissue is made of protein. Muscle tissue is made up of fibers, and those fibers comprise chains of amino-acid molecules called peptides.

If youre looking at the big picture of muscle building, there are 20 amino acids that help the body build protein. These 20 amino acids are split into two categories:

  • Eleven non-essential amino acids
  • Nine essential amino acids
  • Because these nine essential amino acids cannot be produced by the body, we must obtain those amino acids through food or supplementation. Foods like animal meat, eggs, some plant proteins, and dairy are considered complete proteins, meaning they contain all nine essential amino acids. This also means theyre ideal foods to consume if your goal is to maintain or build muscle mass.
