Is Gatorade Zero Better Than Regular Gatorade
Gatorade Zero has the same electrolytes as Gatorade, without the sugar or artificial colors. For this reason, some people consider Gatorade Zero healthier than regular Gatorade. However, Gatorade Zero has artificial sweeteners, which come with other possible risks. Therefore, it depends on your priorities and concerns.
Personally, Id rather drink Gatorade Zero than regular Gatorade. The sugar in normal Gatorade is way too much for me personally. I try to avoid spikes in my blood sugar due to how it affects my acne.
However, I wouldnt want to drink a lot of Gatorade Zero on a regular basis, either. As covered above, it could have a negative effect on my insulin sensitivity and possibly cause other problems eventually
Neither Gatorade Zero nor regular Gatorade are really healthy drinks. Drinking coconut water, tap water, or unsweetened tea would usually be a healthier choice.

Is Gatorade Zero Vegan
All flavors of Gatorade Zero are generally considered vegan. They have no milk, eggs, honey, or other animal byproducts.
The only reason I can imagine that someone would say Gatorade Zero isnt vegan is due to animal testing. The artificial sweeteners and colors in Gatorade Zero have been tested on animals extensively.
In my blog post about sucralose, I explained the cruel and sad animal testing that was done to prove the safety of sucralose. It is said that over 12,000 animals died in the testing of sucralose.
That said, boycotting drinks like Gatorade Zero today cant undo the animal testing that was already done. So most vegans are okay with consuming these artificial sweeteners and colors.

Does Gatorade Zero Raise Blood Sugar
I didnt find any peer-reviewed research directly on whether Gatorade Zero raises blood sugar. However, Gatorade Zero does have sucralose, which has been shown to affect insulin resistance.
Sucralose is not absorbed in the small intestine like normal sugar, so it ends up in the large intestine. Apparently, it alters your gut bacteria there, affecting your tolerance to carbohydrates.
So theoretically, drinking a lot of Gatorade Zero may worsen your blood sugar control. But this hasnt been tested directly, to my knowledge.
There are also suspicions that artificial sweeteners may cause an insulin response through another mechanism. That is, the sweet taste of artificial sweeteners may trigger an insulin response even without real sugar in your bloodstream.
So, proceed with caution. If blood-sugar control is crucial for you, Id recommend using a glucometer like this one to actually test whether Gatorade Zero has any affect for you.

What Does Gatorade Zero Have In It
Lets start by actually looking at some Gatorade Zero ingredients. Below is a table showing three flavors. Most of the ingredients are the same for each flavor, but the coloring is actually quite different between flavors.
Ill share my takeaway points below the table:
|Gatorade Zero Flavor
|Water, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate, Salt, Monopotassium Phosphate, Gum Arabic, Natural Flavor, Sucralose, Acesulfame Potassium, Sucrose Acetate Isobutyrate, Glycerol Ester Of Rosin, Yellow 6.

|Water, Citric Acid, Natural Flavor, Sodium Citrate, Salt, Monopotassium Phosphate, Modified Food Starch, Mixed Triglycerides, Sucralose, Glycerol Ester Of Rosin, Acesulfame Potassium.
Here are the 3 biggest points I notice from these ingredients:
- Gatorade Zero has artificial sweeteners. On the bright side, Gatorade Zero doesnt have sugar. But instead, it has Sucralose and Acesulfame K. These are controversial zero-calorie sweeteners, and theyre likely the worst aspect of Gatorade Zero. Ill explore this more below.
- Gatorade Zero has added electrolytes. This is the main point of sports drinks like Gatorade Zero. It helps replace electrolytes like sodium and potassium as you lose them in your sweat. But does Gatorade Zero have too much sodium? Well cover that below.

Is Gatorade Zero Keto Friendly Everything You Need To Know
Let us tell you about the story of our good friend, James
He will share with you one of the worst experiences hes had on his keto diet.
Last year, he focused all his time and energy on losing weight fast and boosting his strength, so he decided to add an intense workout aside from sticking with his keto diet.
So hes been working his butt off doing cardio and lifting weights. To keep up with his physically demanding lifestyle, he started drinking more electrolyte drinks.
Guess what? Instead of feeling better, he felt worst!
His weight stayed the same.
He feel tired all the time.
As if that wasnt enough, he experienced keto flu once again!
So he decided to do some research to determine whats wrong with him.
Heres what he found: his electrolyte drink kicked him out of ketosis!
It has too much sugar and, worse, lesser electrolytes than what his body needs.
He went through hell because of his wrong choice of electrolyte drink, and he doesnt want this to happen to you,.
Therefore, were here to review all electrolyte drinks in the market to help you find the right one for you.
Were going to start with Gatorade Zero.
Why Do People Drink Gatorade Zero
Gatorade Zero boasts its electrolyte replenishment that cannot be supplemented by plain water. Most especially for individuals who are highly physically active. But how essential are electrolytes to the body?
To facilitate important bodily functions, electrolytes are distributed through the fluid in the body and utilized as electrical energy, since these are charged ions .
These are important to control :
- Water balance
- Aids in muscle contraction including the heart
- Maintain correct body pH
Common electrolytes include calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium and chloride. Gatorade Zero contains potassium and sodium. Concentrations vary with every electrolyte water available in the market.
This contains no sugar and 2 grams of carbs. No sugar spike in Gatorade Zero, such that it contains alternative sweeteners: acesulfame potassium and sucralose which are known to have little to no effects on the blood sugar.

Review: Gatorade Zero With Protein
As someone who gets thirsty, doesnt consume the daily recommended amount of protein, and likes to drink things with names that describe how Im feeling, I think I can get behind Gatorade Zero with Protein.
The no-sugar thirst quencher is available in three flavors, and if youve explored the Gatorade rainbow, your taste buds have probably come across them before in other lines the sports drink brand offers. Theres Fruit Punch , Glacier Cherry , and Cool Blue .
Because these are part of Gatorades sugar-free Zero line, there are artificial sweeteners, which in this case are acesulfame potassium and sucralose. As someone who regularly drinks zero sugar beverages, Im okay with the sweetener combination here.
I would also like to note, and this is going to make you wonder if my taste buds are broken, they taste fine at room temperature. With almost every other sugar-free beverage Ive consumed that was not chilled or was out for too long, the artificial sweeteners overwhelm the flavor. But that wasnt the case with these. Of course, your taste buds may vary.
The cloudy drinks get their 10 grams of protein in every bottle from whey protein isolate, which makes these thirst quenchers slightly gritty. Although having had other protein beverages, I did expect that. What I didnt expect was that the additive makes my mouth feel quenched one moment and then parched the next. Its definitely weird. I imagine this will be a deal-breaker for some. It isnt for me.
